YEAR OF THE GOAT 2027 UNCIRCULATED TETRADECAGON COIN

The 50c tetradecagon design features a goat surrounded by Narcissus flowers (daffodils), which often bloom around the time of Lunar New Year. The flowers frame and emphasise the gentle nature of the goat, with their flowing forms echoing the curves of its horns and hair. The goat climbs across rocky terrain, symbolising its natural harmony and connection with the mountains. A traditional symbol representing the goat is also incorporated into the design.

The domed coins feature the second design, which curves into a crescent moon shape representing the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The design surrounds the goat symbol and the words “Year of the Goat”. The goat is depicted in a calm and gentle stance, with a with a peaceful expression reflecting the kind and compassionate nature traditionally associated with those born in the Year of the Goat.

Persimmons frame the goat’s head and represent good luck and prosperity. Together, the goat and the persimmons convey the auspicious meaning “everything as you wish” or “everything goes according to your wishes”. 

The first coin in the two-coin set also features this second design, while the second coin features the Chinese Lunar Calendar design. The calendar rotates each year, with the featured animal positioned at the top. The 12 zodiac animals are depicted running across a water pattern, reflecting the traditional story of The Lunar zodiac. 

At the centre of the design is the symbol ‘Fu’, representing good luck. Surrounding ‘Fu’ are clouds representing the Heavens. Clouds are also considered a symbol of good fortune, and when depicted as a repeating pattern, they represent never-ending prosperity.

Chinese Zodiac

According to legend, twelve animals participated in a race across a river to allow the Jade Emperor to establish the order of the signs of the Chinese horoscope. The goat finished in eighth place, followed by the monkey and the rooster; the three animals had worked together to cross the river on a raft.
